On top of that, Mazda is a very small manufacturer without the resources of the bigger rivals. The Miata is it’s own platform (separate from the other two main platforms that all of their other cars are built on). It’s always had a long lead time for updates and refreshes.

Honest answer: between Brz and the Miata, MX-5 aka Miata will be the better choice. Convertible is probs not what you need but with a hardtop it will be no different. A newer models are heaps better keeping the weather out and the warmth in. BRZ is a slow drift car running on thin tires. You will need to modify the tyre width to gain better
The Mazda top has a very nice headliner and the latches are the same as the ones on the soft top. Earlier Mazda tops had no headliner or rear defroster. The Snugtop had a small "Snugtop" decal, I think in the drivers side "B" pillar area. It had a headliner glued on that seemed to be made of indoor / outdoor carpeting and had a funky odor.
